Abstract

In this paper we intend to give an overview of the literary reading teaching in schools in Portugal. First we focus on the official speech materialized in the countless programs and ministerial initiatives concerning reading: the School Libraries network, the National Reading Plan, the Teaching of Portuguese Language National Program and the current Programs of the Basic Education. Primarily we intend to analyze how all these initiatives are articulated around the teaching of reading and in the education of literary readers. Afterwards we will go beyond this official speech and enter in its recontextualization in schools and classrooms in Primary Education. At this point we will describe practices regarding the literary text observed by the researchers as teachers of the Teaching of Portuguese Language National Program.
