Is that our decisions and actions are guided by free will or, on the contrary, are causally determined? On the other hand, our actions may still be simultaneously caused either by free will determinism? In the event that our decisions and actions are not guided by free will, we cannot be held responsible for them? If not, then what's the point of ethics? These are some of the fundamental issues that this article seeks to parse through the discussion of the main arguments of compatibilists (FRANKFURT, 1969) and incompatibilists (VAN INWAGEN, 1983) about the nature of moral action. Ultimately, we aim to assess the extent to which we can be morally responsible for our acts regardless of having free will, or not, and to rethink the place of ethics in this new scenario. The consequences that can be extract from this debate will therefore be of enormous relevance, for example, for educational action.
