Abstract

In the context of web 2.0 and open education, MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) emerge as a type of courses offered for free generally, to anyone with Internet access, any wherein the world. The objective of this research is to see how the present MOOCs today, describing the courses offered by different platforms in terms of: accredited institutions, country of origin, total number of courses, languages and certification. The quantitative survey was conducted between August and November 2013, based on the platforms: EDX and OpenupEd. The results show certain homogeneity in the courses offered by EDX platform, especially in relation to language and formats used, which can be explained by the predominant presence of American institutions on the platform, while in plataform a OpenupEd is found greater diversity recorded both languages, as the formats of courses.
