The text deals with theoretical and methodological references to build Reading Stations, given term to mediation devices and apropiation of culture literacy, resulting from research developed at ECA / USP, for decades, by the author and transdisciplinary teams under his coordination. Based on the effective deployment of more than 150 spaces for reading and culture in diferent contexts: school and non-school, formal and non-formal settings, this article presents four basic distinctions that guided and have been guiding this theoretical and practical process of collaborative creation between University and "ground": tellers / readers; space / reading environments; monological device / dialogical device; Transmitter / cultural mediator. The text concludes with the essential importance of these distinctions to create reading environments for building readers, persons taken as protagonists in the tables of cultural literacy.
