Abstract

Starting with an illustrative short story, this article discusses the medicalization of Education. The chosen cut for this is the hegemonic school model and the ways in which it provides fertile soil for such a phenomenon. Having historical materialism as theoretical reference, this model has its naturalization deconstructed by unvealing its historical roots. Its disagreements with contemporary way of life and production are also presented. Finally, non-medicalizing educational experiences are introduced.
