The choices we make along our journey of life define who we are, from a personal and social and professional point of view. The main objective of this study is to assess and promote the development of a curriculum for the education of young children that promotes competence of choice and decision making for preschool children. The methodology used is a qualitative case study and data collected was through the Involvement Scale, and the analysis of preschool teachers’ lesson plans. The study was carried out in three public preschools and involved 48 children and three preschool teachers. The data suggest that there is a relationship between the competence of choice and decision making of children and their involvement in activities, either in self-initiated activities or activities proposed by educators. The analysis of data is held in the theories and pedagogical approaches of Dewey, Freinet, Malaguzzi, and Weikart.
