Abstract

FUNDEB was implemented in the country in the beginning of 2007 in substitution to currently extinct FUNDEF, which was greatly criticized by the ones who are concerned with public education financial support. This article aims to discuss the main characteristics of this new way of financing basic education, compared to the Fund previously existent. By means of analyzing legal documents and bibliography related to the subject it demonstrates that FUNDEB, in spite of some advances in relation to the previous situation, maintains the precedent Fund logic and does not overcome some of its main limitations.
