Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The text follows the style standards and bibliographic requirements described in: https://docs.google.com/document/u/6/d/128wxsJ-z8Hi-wO8DT2aFve9k0tw844tj/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=113898651430998165282&rtpof=true&sd=true
  • The contribution is original and unpublished, and is not being evaluated for publication by another journal.
  • The files for submission are in Microsoft Word, OpenOffice format (2 megabyte extension).
  • Item 3.1 “Guidelines for authors” was followed.
  • The identification of the author of the work has been removed from the file and from the Properties option in Word, thus guaranteeing the journal's confidentiality criteria if submitted for peer review (e.g. articles), according to the instructions available inEnsuring Blind Peer Review.
  • The copyright of the scientific material will be ceded to the journal Geografia em Atos, and it is up to the author to request authorization from the editorial board for its manipulation and commercial reproduction.

GUIDELINES FOR AUTHORS

SUBMISSION OF ARTICLES TO THE JOURNAL GEOGRAFIA EM ATOS

The journal Geografia em Atos (GeoAtos) will receive articles that comply with the following guidelines:

  • Articles must be submitted exclusively via the journal's website.
  • Articles must be original and unpublished.
  • The articles received will be submitted to the Editorial Board and evaluators, who will issue opinions on the article.
  • The standard limit is three authors per submission for continuous flow submissions. In specific cases, the editorial board will evaluate exceptions to extend this number.
  • Accepted papers may be published in the next issue of the Journal or in subsequent issues, as decided by the Editorial Board.
  • The submitted file must not identify the author(s) in order to guarantee an impartial evaluation process. Information about the author(s), their institutional affiliation and/or academic career, e-mail address and postal address, mandatory ORCID identifier, biography, among others, must be entered in the Journal's own system in the specific fields, observing the uppercase and lowercase entry system. Do NOT enter authorship information in capital letters.
  • When submitting the manuscript, the title and keywords must be in upper and lower case. Do NOT capitalize the title.
  • Revista Geografia em Atos accepts articles, research notes, academic essays, interviews and critical reviews for publication.

PLAGIARISM ANALYSIS

  • Manuscripts submitted to the journal will undergo a technical review for plagiarism analysis on the Turnitin detection platform using iThenticate. The editorial team checks the data provided and in the case of plagiarism, with the recognition of at least one paragraph without the correct reference, the manuscript will be returned to the author(s), indicating the problem. In the case of self-plagiarism, the maximum allowed is 10% of the text or 40% when it is the result of a master's dissertation or doctoral thesis. If this is not the case, the manuscript will be returned with notification of the problem and the opportunity to make a new submission in the journal's system.
  • In the case of notifications made to the journal after publication, the Editorial Team will evaluate the complaint and, if confirmed, the manuscript will be deleted from our database, with the possibility of applying appropriate measures to the author(s).
  • The Editorial Team recommends accessing and being aware of the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidelines on ethical principles in scientific publication.

STANDARDIZATION AND FORMATTING OF ARTICLES

3. Articles must be at least 15 pages long and no more than 25, including tables, graphs, figures and bibliographical references. Research notes (between 10-15), academic essays (between 7-10) and critical reviews should be a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 10 pages. Other manuscripts will be analyzed according to specific requirements.

4. The texts must be typed in Word, in .doc format, configured for printing on A4 paper, with 3 cm margins (top, bottom, right and left) and unnumbered pages. Written in Times New Roman font size 12, with 1.5 cm line spacing, justified body text and a special indent of 1.5 cm in the first lines of each paragraph.

5. The first page of the article should contain the title of the work, in Portuguese, in font size 13, bold, centered and single-spaced, with capital letters. Followed by the abstract in Portuguese, in a single paragraph with a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 15 lines, font size 11, justified, single spaced, indented by 2cm. Followed by keywords (minimum of 3 and maximum of 5) separated from the abstract by a blank space and separated from each other by a semicolon.

6. Subsequently, translated titles should follow, followed by their respective translations of abstracts and keywords under the same rules as above.

7. Direct quotations of more than three lines should be in font size 11, justified, single-spaced, with a 4cm left indent, separated from the rest of the text by a blank line above and below.

8. Footnotes should be avoided as much as possible, but when essential, they should be in the same font as the text and in size 10, justified, with single spacing between lines.

9. Highlighted words or phrases should be avoided, but when essential, or if they indicate words in a foreign language, they should be italicized.

10. Tables, graphs and charts should be prepared in Excel, in .xls format, and also sent in separate files, in addition to being inserted in the body of the text, which should be presented with centered formatting.

11. Figures, photos and maps should be in .jpeg or .tiff format (uncompressed), with a minimum resolution of 300dpi and maximum dimensions of 20 cm high and 13 cm wide. Illustrations must also be sent separately and inserted in the body of the text with centered formatting.

12. Citations, table titles, graphs, charts, figures, photos and maps must follow the current standardization of the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards - ABNT.

13. Bibliographical references must be complete and precise, according to ABNT standards, aligned in a justified manner, with single spacing between lines and 12 pts below.

Reviews

It is intended for the publication of scientific texts in the form of reviews, in accordance with the instructions provided in the journal's rules.

Research Notes

It is intended for the publication of scientific texts in the form of Research Notes, in accordance with the instructions provided in the journal's rules.

Interview

It is intended for the publication of scientific texts in the form of interviews, in accordance with the instructions provided in the journal's rules.

Essay

It is intended for the publication of scientific texts in the form of Essays, in accordance with the instructions provided in the journal's rules.

Translation

Text relevant to research in the field of Geography. It must be accompanied by authorization from the author of the original work, or from the publisher or journal in which the text was published. If the work is in the public domain, this procedure is not necessary, and the author of the translation is responsible for providing all this information. The translation must also be accompanied by the text in the original language that was translated. Translations with up to three translators are accepted. The formatting model must follow the parameters of the general Geoatos journal template for articles, available on the online portal.
