Through literature review and desk research we analyzed the process of teacher training in physical education in Brazil. Our sources of data generation consulting the Postgraduate Programs in Physical Education registered at the CAPES directory, as well as consultation of electronic addresses of each program, in order to obtain information about the number of researchers, research lines and areas of concentration. Data were analyzed based on the epistemological framework of the Method of Historical Dialectic Materialism. The results show that it reduced the number of researchers investigating the process of teacher training in physical education. This disparity is not just quantitative, it also refers to the lack of consistency in the epistemological problems found by its production.
